And The Winner Is…
Local musicians and politicians alike are crowing with pride over the announcement of the first Grammy Award nominees for Best Hawaiian Music Album. The category (actually, category number 69 in field number 14, “Folk Music“), was announced last year, and is seen as both an affirmation of the growth and artistic merit of Hawaiian music as well as an opportunity for even wider, worldwide exposure for the genre and artists.
The nominees are “Ke`alaokamaile” by Keali`i Reichel (pictured), “Some Call It Aloha…Don’t Tell” by The Brothers Cazimero, “Amy & Willie Live” by Amy Hanaiali’i Gilliom & Willie K, “Cool Elevation” by Ho’okena, and “Slack Key Guitar Volume 2,” a compilation featuring various artists.
The winners will be announced February 13.
