The second thing I do when I land at a mainland airport is head to the news stand and browse the local Safeway ads. In Phoenix, Safeway sells milk for $1.79 a gallon and fresh strawberries for $0.88 a pound. I do not remember the last time I saw fresh strawberries at TKS and a gallon of milk runs over $7.00. Phoenix has brand new houses selling for $50,000.00. Yesterday, the Honolulu Advertiser reported that the median home price on Maui is $700,000.00.
There are peacocks on the roof of Kula Hospital in Upcountry Maui and the first thing I do is coffee. The other stuff can wait.
