Maui.

RC3.JPG RC1.JPG Work took me recently to Maui, with none other than my brother David, otherwise known as “Big D,” “D Head,” or the antichrist. No? Ok, so I made that up. Anyway, Friday was an exceptionally miserably humid day that found us tramping around, like tired, lost explorers, on the grounds of the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua. Yes, I suppose things could have been worse.

Maui radio stations are… basically Honolulu stations. After listening to my brother’s initial station choice play some female-objectifying crap called “Gold Digger” twice I hit the “search” button when he had his back turned at the gas station. There’s a need for some good old rock in Maui. You there, Keola?

RC5.JPG RC2.JPG The Ritz Carlton was impressive even from the parking lot. They don’t even have normal doves or pigeons in their parking lot. They have these cool-looking I dunno whats David said are “Irkles” or something. There was a restful sitting room with a view of the ocean & sky full of soft, comfortable furniture, & it was mostly empty.

By the way, these pictures are thumbnails. If you click on them, they’ll enlarge. I have to mention that because recently someone noted that my pictures are all really small. Heh.

RC7.JPG RC6.JPG RC4.JPG I really haven’t been off this rock in a long time; I went to Vegas for the first time last year & I didn’t like it. I like quiet spots. I’m also a bathroom person. You know how some people are kitchen people, others are bedroom people? I’m a bathroom person. I just had to take a picture. Little nice-smelling hand towels. So cute.

I don’t have a lot else to say about the Ritz Carlton except that… it’s big. That was a lot of walking, albeit through gorgeous scenery. The employees were all quite polite & helpful, & everywhere the hotel was very well-maintained. But by the time we rescheduled our return flight, I was exhausted & tired of feeling touristy.

RC94.JPGRC93.JPGAnd then, we came upon a comfortable little nook. Ah, cold air conditioning, dim lighting, a jukebox playing some Staind & some light cigarette smoke. Since I quit smoking 2.5 years ago my sinuses can’t handle too much, but a little is actually nice. When I mentioned to my Brian’s friend Keith that we had found a pool hall, he had immediately said, “Ohana?” Well, to me it was like pushing the foliage away in a jungle, ok?

The best part was my brother had to get the last rack. That would have to be my favorite part of the day.

I’ve been to that pool hall. Wow it must have been like 10 years ago. I went with Ryan K, Mac, and Angry Joy. Ryan and Kevin played in a pool tournament, Angry Joy and I went to watch and vacation.

I see that you quit smoking 2.5 years ago?
Do you remember telling me many many moons ago, “Smoke em if you got em?” I believe that was at the Yum Yum Tree in Kahala. From that time till up around 4 months ago I have smoked :(
On a good note, I cold turkeyed it without much harm done to myself.

    Naw, it was Velvet’s.

I miss smoking. I never wanted to quit. Can’t go back, though.

It’s Family Billiards not Ohana’s unless they changed the name… Yeah that time when Lum, Ryan K, Mac and I went up for the tourney I spent the last day at Kaahumanu Shopping Center or sleeping in the rental car waiting for the guys to golf. Ryan Lum is DA HAWAIIAN!!!! =P

Holy crap, I’m a total bathroom person too! I thought myself a bit weird for wanting to take photos of what I consider “top notch” bathrooms. When I went to the Big Island last month I ended up taking photos of the bathrooms at the Fairmont Orchid. You gotta check those out! I love it when you get to use real handtowels. And marble floors are always neat. Slippery as hell, but neat!
