The Third Presidential Debate

The third presidential debate took place yesterday, and I attended a “debate party” at All-Star Cafe in Waikiki. The event was sponsored by the local Kerry campaign. Hawaii has long been known as a democratic stronghold, and while our current governor is a republican, we are not considered to be a “battleground state.” Well, not like we would be anyway, seeing as we only throw in 4 electoral votes. Still, the event was extremely lively. The alcohol helped. So did the Tony Soprano line. All-Star Cafe rented out the entire top floor for the event, which was a great idea. The first debate party was downtown at Murphy’s Irish Pub, which was not so great an idea. Murphy’s is divided into two rooms which ended up being the Democrat Room vs. the Republican Room. The cheering became louder and louder as the debate went on. Then it started becoming obnoxious. Inevitably, the night dissolved into a series of loud, Guinness-powered arguments between the two sides crossing over. Not fun. I had to check out of that hotel early, if you know what I mean.
