Cats and Dogs

petproject.jpgSunday is the day to pamper the mothers in your life. It also brings a new exhibit to the HPU Art Gallery, located on their Hawaii Loa campus in Kaneohe (it’s not that hard to find). “Pet Project” is a group show featuring works inspired by the artists’ pets. Notes co-curator Paul Levitt:

“From Henri Matisse sketching his pet Milanese doves, to David Hockney making paintings of his two dashunds (now compiled in a book called DOG DAYS), artists have found inspiration from their pets throughout the ages. I myself have ventured away from my normal abstract paintings to do portraits of my three cats and my West Highland terrier, Sherman.”

This multi-media exhibition includes work from 20 artists: David Behlke, Brad Capello, Kimberly Chai, Chuck Davis, Jodi Endicott, Dorothy Faison, Paul Hosch, Carl Jennings, Andy Kay, Jinja Kim, John Koga, Jackie Lau, Paul Levitt, Rochelle Lum, Ingrid Manzione, Bernie Moriaz, Fred Roster, Roy Venters, Barbara Ward, and George Wollard.
