How pristine can it be if you are there?

The most sublime “ecotourism” advertisement I have seen is for HMV Tours. It shows a couple entering a beautiful Hawaiian rainforest in an H1 Hummer. The ad states, “Native guides take you deep into this otherwise inaccessible Kohala refuge where the only sounds are water splashing into a hidden pond and perhaps, the wind whispering your name.” Oh and the roar of a 6.5-liter turbo-diesel V8.

I can hike 10 miles if there is hidden treasure. An H1 Hummer can do it on one gallon of diesel.

I wonder how many native plants get crushed under the wheels of that hummer. Bummer!
