My name is Lauren & I’m a World of Warcraft addict.

I’ve been a gamer since 1999. I’ve given up what used to be regular haunts – Hunakai beach, Kahala Mall, Karaoke Hut, real life – to be an Undead Mage in a virtual world. Prior to World of Warcraft, I was a Dark Elf Enchantress, Wood Elf Bard, Dark Elf Mage, & TaruTaru Mage. Yep, I’m a geek.

I have one day off a week, generally spent at home in my wifebeater & boxers glued to my computer with a can of Red Bull. Unlike previous MMORPGs, I get to play with a ton of Hawaii-based players. WoW offered players choices of servers based on time zone, & all my friends seem to have signed up for the same place.

Since then I have brought my sister, her boss, several of my friends & some co-workers over to the dark side. I was in Amway once. But Amway wasn’t as fun.

We have a guild made up of Hawaii & mainland PST players. I got recruited on my 1st day of play because I already knew several members IRL (“In Real Life.”) & they had been waiting for me to bite the bullet & join the game. You see, it is a pyramid.

We have guild BBQs, & guild outings. This is where we congregate somewhere like normal people would, but unlike normal people, we generally end up discussing game strategies, events, play styles, & recent ingame happenings in between shots.

Pictured here L-R: Side Street Inn, card game at someone’s house, & my birthday party at Karaoke Hut. Pictures of actual action (in game!) can be viewed on my blogs at www.myspace.com/tamastara. Yeah, I hate MySpace too.

There are a number of people that, when ingame, I call by their real names. And then there are guildies who, when we’re hanging out in the flesh, I only know by their player handles. I don’t know which I prefer.

Eventually we will all fade out of game & go back to our real lives. Or another game. Depends. Today I looked at some kayaks. Still thinking.

In the meantime I’m waiting for Wendell to build a real computer so he can come play with us. Heh heh.

    Howzit Lauren,
Welcome to Metroblog Hawaii. Glad to see you got your first post up and running. I will look forward to your adventures, especially if you get that kayak. Bar life would be interesting too, but maybe that’s a previous life.

it’s always nice to read another interesting blog by you. actually my favorite part of this one is that fact that i can kinda put names to faces within the game.

    Hiya Lauren,

Yes, this game is way too addictive. I take all of my free time which I can use to, do important things like pay bills, go to work, sleep you know that kind of thing but im here playing WoW. Just trying to catch up with everyone so I can hang with the guild. At least im not spending any more money on stupid things like food or my car. lol. Thanks Lauren its been fun so far. Still feel like a noob though. Take care, see you around take care

It is she who rains down death upon the unwitting masses and perpetuates their pain by adding them to her WoW blogs.

I’m glad she’s on my side, but I wish she rolled a toon with big hair.

Her bio rocks but she left out “Astrology buff”

You need to add the edge that you have on your myspace page. It’s way more fun when you’re crabby and pissy! =)

Hiya Lauren, just wanted to ask… I live Oahu and been playin wow for some time now (60 dwarf priest malganis ftw :P) You mentioned something about the game letting u choose server based on time zone? how do u do that btw? ive been tryin to find other hawaii players since i started with no luck :/ really gets frustrating when my guild is loggin for the night just as im gettin on… so yah, if u could tell me wat servers are for our time zone (better yet wat server u on? :)

Hey Chozo – My Undead Mage is on Tichondrius (PvP), although I haven’t been playing much lately. Most of the Hawaii players moved to a PvE server, Staghelm & they’re playing Alliance.

Alliance + PvE = just not the same for me. =(

Monica (our new writer!) also plays, but I don’t know which server. She used to be on Tichondrius until all the cool kids left.

Good luck!! I do recall that the Realm list used to say “Pacific” or have other time-zone references. I’ll have to check now, to see.

I’m Monica – I currently have a crazy amount of toons of various servers. I really need to weed out the ones that don’t get much play time.

I still have my Tauren on Tich, but never really play it anymore. I’m supposed to switch my toon to ALLY (ick) so I can play on Lauren’s side on Tich…

Horde toons are on Crushridge (UD Mage – still new but I’m playing often on this server), Lothar (thinking of dumping), and I accidentally made one on Spirestone or something like that.

Ally toon on Spinebreaker (see my mistake above…my friend gave me the wrong server name and told me we were Horde – what a dodo). I’m a human mage, just starting out. Already not liking it one bit. What’s up with all the NPCs saying “howdy” or “be careful”? Too nice, waaay too nice. Suspiciously nice. ICK. But it’s good to see how the other side plays.
