God Bless Kahala Shell.

G04.JPGGas prices suck. In fact, they swallow. I’ve begun to feel a low, rumbling hatred for gas stations because I feel like I’m getting raped every time I have to fill gas, & I think service stations are run by a bunch of greedy bastards. Well, at the very least, they are run by a bunch of bastards who are making a lot more money than me. And ok, I admit that I have no proof that any of them are actually bastards. But I imagine they are.

My sister was driving me home after dinner tonight (my first attempt at real food since getting my wisdoms out on Friday… but that is a different blog.) & I suggested the Kahala Shell, which has consistently been 5 cents cheaper than Chevron, & these days, every penny counts. Besides, given a choice I’d prefer to pay the guy who’s gouging me less.

G01.JPG G02.JPGThere was a line to get into the Shell station. At first, I thought that 5 cents must be really counting a lot these days, & then I saw the prices here (click on the thumbnail to the right!). A couple of weeks ago, gas prices had gone down for the week, & I had rushed to a gas station Sunday night before they went back up the next morning. These prices were lower than that. I stared in amazement. My sister saw the prices, & we were both struck with 2 impassioned thoughts: 1) “WTF?” & 2) “Hell yeah, I’ll wait in line!”

G03.JPG G05.JPGOn the one hand, I’m thinking, “These greedy bastards at Shell are pretty damn smart, lowering their prices so that they’ve got a line out to the road on both sides of their lot. They’re winning customers like me who used to only ever fill gas at Chevron — screw Chevron, those greedy bastards! —& probably even selling a few carwash coupons while they’re at it. At 9:30 on a Monday night they’ve probably made more money than Chevron across the street will by sunrise tomorrow.”

And then on the other hand, I’m thinking, “Damn nice of these guys to give us a break on gas prices. Sure, it still isn’t cheap, but… they didn’t have to lower it that much; they could have lowered it 25 cents & still had lines like these. Somehow I don’t feel like I got bent over just now while filling the gas tank.”

And isn’t it nice, once in a while, to feel like you didn’t get bent over?

Holy crap Hawaii gas is expensive. Here I was balking that regular gas in Portland was between 2.66 and 2.39 a gallon.
