Welcome (back) to Hawaii Metroblogs!

It’s been some time since we last saw a post on Hawaii Metblogs and I imagine that it’s fallen off pretty much everyone’s radar.  If you’re finding this site by accident (as I did) only to be disappointed (as I was) after the initial excitement of the prospect of a local news site written by locals for locals, then I hope I can give you reason to be excited again.  For those of you who don’t live here and are perhaps veteran Metrobloggers perusing the different cities, or you’re someone who’s simply interestind in Hawaii, I hope you enjoy seeing my side of the Aloha State.

I have a number of ideas of what I’m going to post.  These are entirely based upon my interests and as such I will make no attempt to cover every news outlet.  Think of me as the Weekend/Arts section of a newspaper.  I plan on covering a lot of restraunts, hikes, local events, clubs and interviewing locals.  For the Hawaii resident I hope that I might share the things I’ve found interesting with an intent that you might enjoy them as well.  For the non-resident I hope you might gain an interest in Hawaii and enjoy some of the things that we far too often take for granted.

So be sure to keep checking the site in the following weeks and I hope you’ll enjoy what I have to share.  If you’re like me and you love the idea of a local-only news outlet written by local people and think you have something to offer then go to the bottom of the page and find out how you can join us!  Once again, welcome to Hawaii Metblogs!

Turtle 2.0

One of the best places we stopped was the beach with the sea turtles. I think it was Laniakea beach on the North Shore.
These turtles are huge. Much bigger than I have ever expected.

Hawaii’s Gifts 4, 5, 6 & 7

So these are all late and I am just going to briefly mention them since the deadline already passed.

Gift #4: Hawaii Five-0 and Other TV movie productions: Surely many other cities have had film and TV productions based there. Hawaii has long had a presence on the industry map and is known for the TV series Hawaii Five-0, Magnum P.I. and most recently LOST. There have been others. We have some TV fans who make it a hobby to keep up with filming of current productions such as LOST. Fans of Hawaii Five-0 will finally get to see their favorite TV show released to DVD this coming February. Hooray!

Many other TV productions, commercials and news programs are shot in Hawaii.

Hawaii has long been a good location for movie production and several major pictures have been shot entirely or in part at various locations throughout Hawaii. Among the well known titles are Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, Tears in the Sun, 50 First Dates, Mighty Joe Young and Blue Crush. There are many others going all the way back to the early 1900s. Hoorary for Hollywood in Hawaii!

Honolulu Underground!

Forget the Monorail, forget the Superferry, Honolulu’s got a new Underground!

Living on island creates many challenges. One is land value is expensive, so it’s ideal for real estate. The downside to this is that farms aren’t at top of the list to develop, which has created a shortage of farms.
To help change some of that my family and I are part of a group on Oahu called Community Sustained Agriculture or CSA for short.

The CSA is great! we pay a small fee each month for a box of super tasty produce grown on farms right here on Oahu and the produce is delivered to a location near our home. The islands contain the perfect climate for 3 growing seasons a year!!

So this past weekend we went out to the country to share and assist in “our” garden for fun. Trimming, mulching, whacking…It was a rewarding feeling. I know where my food is coming from (no e-coli spinach here!) and in the process supporting local farmers.

Another Saturday Night

I can only imagine whats going on down there. It was a warm afternoon for me so I ventured up Tantalus for a cool relaxing view of H-town.

Fall has landed and the leaves start to change….but not here Hawaii’s mango season is just about over but that’s about it.

The smart ones are making their winter plans now. Although the best part of the year has just happened…SUMMER!

The South Shore swells are trimming down and the North Shore is just starting to kick up. I have to admit it’s been one hella of a summer.

I love Honolulu, the weekends are filled with busy people.

The hustle and bustle on weekend nights can be rather entertaining. I went out this past Saturday and caught this action.
